About Equitable
The Equitable Life Insurance Company of Canada, founded in 1920 in Waterloo, Ontario (federally chartered in 1936, mutualized in 1963), is one of Canada's largest mutual life insurance companies — owned by its participating policyholders rather than shareholders. It offers individual life and critical illness insurance, savings and retirement products, and group benefits. In November 2023 it shortened its brand to "Equitable" (French: Équitable). It is distinct from and unrelated to Equitable Bank.
